Ethical Metalsmiths is concerned about representing artisan jewelers in providing the most traceable and transparent sourcing possible to your / their customers.  Certified Fairtrade and Fairmined gold is still a new product and concept and is the only newly mined gold in the world that meets Ethical Metalsmiths' commitment to traceability and transparency. This certified gold employs standards that provide true benefit to real people who make up producer communities. Currently, only a handful of pioneering artisan jewelers are sourcing from these certified Fairtrade and Fairmined mines. While a great first step, this limited demand from North American jewelers and therefore customers is not yet creating a vibrant market that will ultimately change the lives of hundreds of thousands of small-scale miners.

Ethical Metalsmiths members are in a position to support local and indigenous peoples in sourcing communities who are committed to being good stewards of their communities and environment.

Ethical Metalsmiths, in collaboration with Fair Jewelry Action, aims to harness the commitment of artisan, studio jewelers to continue pioneering efforts to transform the jewelry industry. Providing the most traceable and transparent jewelry to US customers tomorrow begins with responsible sourcing today.

In order for artisan jewelers to easily source certified gold,  Ethical Metalsmiths is establishing an Ethical Jewelry Sourcing Consortium in which we invite your participation and the first group purchase of Fairtrade and Fairmined gold will be  Feb. 2013. Future plans include the sourcing of other jewelry materials.  We also are reviewing additional sources of ethical gold and hopefully silver.

A Special Note to Jewelers Interested in Fairtrade and Fairmined Gold:

In the new year, those of you that have registered interest in sourcing Fairtrade and Fairmined gold will be receiving a joint letter from Ethical Metalsmiths and Fair Jewelry Action explaining what has been happening behind the scenes over the last several months. Additionally you will be invited to participate in a group purchase of certified gold.

If you would like to guarantee your receipt of future communications on the Ethical Jewelry Sourcing Consortium or if you know you'd like to place an order, please CONTACT US indicating your interest.
